Join UCSB students, faculty, and staff from underrepresented backgrounds ​for a discussion on January 29 around the challenges they have faced while learning, teaching, and working at UCSB. During ​this event, the group will begin brainstorming and sharing strategies to help underrepresented Gauchos navigate their academic and professional lives at UCSB.

You’ve planned, prepared, and implemented your lesson plan. But how do you know if your students are really “getting” it? This workshop will discuss interactive techniques and activities that encourage students to ask questions and allow you to gauge class-wide comprehension.

Do you love TED talks? Do you want an incredible experience to set you apart in job interviews? Want to have a professional video of yourself doing public speaking for bragging rights? The TEDxUCSB team is looking for three UCSB students to speak at TEDxUCSB on Saturday, March 3, 2018. Entries are due by Friday, January 26.

In this workshop, you will learn about strategies and resources for minimizing and managing anxiety related to teaching, and for increasing confidence at the front of the classroom.

Want to capture the reader's attention and encapsulate your research concisely? Learn how at this January 31 workshop led by Writing Advisor Kyle Crocco. You will analyze the introductions of successful grant and fellowship applications and get an understanding of the rhetorical steps involved in writing your own awesome introduction.

Are you applying for late-breaking ​faculty or post-doc positions? A well-crafted CV is a must-have to help you stand out in a large crowd of applicants. Come to our workshop on January 29 to make sure that your CV is in good shape! ​We'll cover the do's and don't's of creating a CV for academic and research-focused industry positions.

Come learn how you can incorporate ergonomics into you daily routine on January 25 with physical therapy from Student Health! Lunch will be provided, be sure to bring your grad student ID. This event is also worth 100 points in the Gaucho Wellness Challenge.

Apply to serve as a paid Spanish interpreter for Parent-Teacher conferences at IV Elementary through the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center. This experience will help you use your academic skills in a broader social environment that includes community members, teachers, and school administrators. Apply by Friday, February 2nd.

Learn some basics about how your values tie into approaches for understanding income sources, managing debt, saving, and investing. ​You'll also become familiar with resources and tools that improve your financial literacy and that can help you create a financial plan for during school and after graduation.

Whether you are a new or experienced TA, it is important to consider your “teacher identity” to help you justify your pedagogical choices and deal with unexpected challenges. In this workshop, you will explore your own experiences as a student and TA in ways that will help you understand why you teach the way you teach.

Instructional Development is offering a workshop for TAs who are interested in improving their teaching, but don't have time to make major changes. Twelve small, easy to implement tips will be shared!

UCSB’s Writing Program is now accepting applications for TA position for 2018-2019 academic year. The assistantships offer you the opportunity to develop theoretical and practical experience in the teaching of writing, curriculum design, and work with students. Make sure to submit your application by 4 p.m. on January 26, 2018.
