The 6th Annual Grad Slam kicks off Monday, April 9! Come out to the first two preliminary rounds, where your People's Choice vote can help your favorites advance to the semifinal rounds. Join us for the 6th annual Grad Slam, a campus-wide competition for the best three-minute talk by a graduate student. The competition features a People's Choice component, so be sure to check out the full prelim schedule and come out and support your friends and fellow grads starting on April 9!

This spring quarter, the Graduate Student Resource Center and Career Services welcomes a new Graduate Career Peer Advisor, ​Ida Taghavi. Ida is a native Californian who is currently a ​PhD student in ​Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at UCSB. We chatted with her about her research interests, her ​passion for mentorship, and her love of yoga!

Kristin Antelman kicks off the spring quarter as our new University Librarian on April 1. Before accepting her new role at UCSB, Kristin served as university librarian at the California Institute of Technology and worked as an associate director of libraries at NC State University. We caught up with Kristin to learn more about her career and what drew her to her new position at UCSB.

Dr. Stephanie Couch, who received her Ph.D. from the UCSB Gevirtz Graduate School of Education in 2012, will take the stage as the 2018 UCSB Graduate Division Commencement Keynote speaker on Sunday, June 17. Dr. Couch has spent nearly two decades of her career working to build better education access through technological opportunities for students from underrepresented communities throughout California.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2018 Graduate Division Commencement Student Speaker. Graduate students who receive their degree/credential or are expected to between Summer 2017 and end of Fall 2018 are eligible to apply.

Faculty members are invited to nominate students for the 2018 Lancaster Dissertation Award Competition in both Mathematics, Physical Sciences, & Engineering and the Social Sciences. The deadline for nominations is Monday, April 2, 2018.

Effective storytelling is an incredible way to make yourself stand out. However, many people do not understand how to use storytelling to their advantage. In this workshop on March 1, you will learn how to utilize stories to network effectively and make a lasting impression. Explore how to craft powerful imagery, create a concise narrative, and capture your audience’s attention.

Due to the shortened winter quarter and the timing of mid-term exams, we are extending the registration deadline for the 2018 Grad Slam competition a second and final time! Be sure to sign up by THIS FRIDAY, February 23 to take part in this exciting annual event.
