UC Santa Barbara welcomes 852 new graduate students ​to campus ​at the end of this month. This group of grad students is the most diverse incoming cohort in UCSB history! The Graduate Student Resource Center and Career Services are excited to welcome a new Graduate Career Peer Advisor, Vash Doshi. ​​Vash is currently pursuing his PhD in Political Science with a focus on International Relations and Political Economy. Read on to learn more about ​Vash!

Attention international students: the Graduate Division has recently communicated about changes to policy implementation around the quarterly non-resident supplemental tuition (NRST) fee. This will now be linked to registered quarters rather than calendar years. Read on for more info and FAQs.

The UCSB Graduate Division is currently accepting applications for its Funding Peer Advisor position to begin employment in Summer 2019. The Funding Peer educates and advises UCSB’s graduate students about internal and external funding opportunities as well as personal finance matters. The position runs through the 2019-20 academic year and is renewable for subsequent years. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by Friday, July 12.

Located on the first floor of the Student Resource Building (Room 1215), the GSRC is the primary resource for graduate students at UCSB for career and professional development support. We offer a variety of workshops and events, individual advising, and referrals to other campus resources that serve graduate students.

Congratulations to Liliana Rodriguez, a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology, who will be taking the stage as this year's Student Speaker at the 2019 Graduate Division Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 14th. Next week, UCSB will send its 2019 Grad Slam champion, ​George Degen from Chemical Engineering, up to San Fransisco to compete against 9 other UC finalists ​in the 5th annual UC systemwide Grad Slam tournament on Friday, May 10. Find out how you can tune in and vote for George in the People's Choice competition!

Nominations are open for two awards honoring graduate students who have distinguished themselves as mentors of undergraduates. Nominations may come from academic and research units as well as individual faculty. The nomination deadline has been extended to Friday, May 3rd, 2019.

After two weeks of competition, only 9 graduate students remain ​to compete in the final round of the 2019 Grad Slam this Friday. With thousands of dollars of prize money up for grabs, this​ is sure to be an event that you won't want to miss. If you can't make it in person, you can tune in to the livestream through UC Santa Barbara's Facebook page to catch all the excitement!

Join us as we ​wrap up the second stage of the 7th Annual Grad Slam with our ​last semifinal round! Three students from each semifinal round will advance to the final round​ happening later this week.
