Program Description
The Hertz Foundation provides merit-based support for 20 doctoral students in the applied physical, biological, or engineering sciences for up to 5 years. Hertz hopes to fund future innovators and leaders in the sciences. There are two fellowship options: the Five-Year Hertz (Option 1) and the Five-Year Coordinated (Option 2). The Five-Year Hertz is renewable for up to 5 years. The Five-Year Coordinated has a Hertz period of 2 years and requires awardee to accept a 3-year Fellowship from another source.

Eligibility Requirements
Applied or enrolled in a Ph.D. program. Must be students of the applied physical, biological, and engineering sciences. Open to prospective and current doctoral students who at the time of application have not yet completed one year of graduate study. If the applicant has a master's degree in a different field, she or he may apply for this fellowship as a 1st-year graduate student. Fellows should be willing to morally commit to make their skills available to the U.S. in time of national emergency. Emphasis on near-term application of applied sciences or engineering. This opportunity is open to graduate students who are US citizens or permanent residents.

Stipend: Option 1: Stipend of $32,000 + full tuition; Option 2: Stipend of $38,000 + full tuition
