More info about tax filings! If you have received a fellowship, scholarship, stipend, or any free money for school, you will need your 1098-T, which reports non-compensatory income (free money) and qualified education expenses. This is useful for determining tax deductions and credits. Find out how to access your 1098-T here.
OVERVIEW
The Taxpayer Relief Act requires UC campuses to report non-compensatory income, qualified tuition, and education related expenses (QTRE) that students have paid. The University of California has contracted with Tab Service to electronically produce the 1098-T form for UC students.
Examples of reportable QTRE are:
- Tuition fees - Resident/Nonresident
- Books, Equipment, Supplies (only if billed through student account)
- Associated Student Fees
- Instructionally-Related Activity Fees
- Student Union Fees
- Campus Quality Fees
- Health Facility Fees
- Extended Learning Course Fee Having Academic Credits
Other expenses that DO NOT qualify as reportable QTRE are:
- Student Health Center Fees
- Health or Disability Insurance Fees
- Student Representation Fees
- Late Payment Fees
- Dining/Meal Plan Charges
- Housing Charges
- Parking Permits and Transportation Fees
- Other Personal, Living or Family Expenses
HOW TO ACCESS YOUR 1098-T
Your 2018 Form 1098-T is now available to access and download online at Tab Service website. You can get thâe same login details below at the MyBARC Homepage that are needed for the Tab Service login page.
You will need the following information to login:
- UCSB Site ID = 11561
- Username = UCSB PERM Number
- Password = Last 4-Digits of your Social Security Number
