The American Scandinavian Foundation Fellowships for Americans in the Nordic Countries provides short term and year long fellowships for research and creative-art projects. This program supports research in the Nordic region and preference is given for dissertation related research. Applications due Nov 1.
OVERVIEW
The American Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers year-long and short term (1-3 months) fellowships for graduate students and academic professionals interested in pursuing research or creative-arts projects in the Nordic region (Denmark, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sámpi, and Sweden).

November 1, 2023
AWARD
Short term fellowships: up to $5,000
Year-long fellowships: up to $23,000
The amount of awards varies each year according to total funds available.
ELIGIBILITY
- Priority is given to candidates at the graduate level for dissertation-related research.
- Applicants must be United States citizens or permanent residents.
- Team projects are eligible, but each member must apply as an individual, submitting a separate, fully-documented application.
- Awards are made in all fields.
- ASF considers it desirable that all candidates have at least some ability in the language of the host country, unless your project does not require the use of a Nordic language.
- If language proficiency is required for your project, a letter of recommendation addressing the individual's Nordic language proficiency is required and must be written by a qualified instructor or professional in that Nordic language.
