Did you miss the “Academic Success in Grad School: The Pursuit of Work/Life Harmony” workshop on September 19th? Read on for three major takeaways and a link to the slides to catch up!
Ryan Sims, the Associate Director of Academic Services and the Graduate Academic Counselor, talked about work/life harmony to new grad students. Here are the top three takeaways from his workshop:
- He can assist with communication, time management, confidence-building strategies, academic goal setting and planning, balancing personal difficulties with academics, campus mental health, and other resource referrals.
- There is a difference between balance and harmony. While work/life balance may suggest that a person must counterbalance everything evenly, work/life harmony emphasizes what works for each individual. It’s okay if everything isn’t evenly distributed, but it should suit your needs.
- Sleep, diet, and exercise are foundational to finding work/life harmony. While some may need to lessen one of these categories temporarily, not having all three is not sustainable in the long term.
