The Department of Theater and Dance is issuing a call for papers for its first-ever graduate symposium: "Global Flows, Resistance, and Performance." See below for more information.
Call for Papers:
We are currently experiencing worldwide social and political movements of extreme conservativism and isolation on the one hand and liberalism and multiculturalism on the other. This graduate symposium will explore the influences and reactions of these extremes and how art and performance can be employed to respond to this dichotomy.
Papers can respond to a variety of global concerns, including the significance of political rhetoric, the need for activist communities, and the various iterations that conservative or liberal movements might take. Our emphasis is on transnational perspectives of how and why ideas cross and re-cross borders and communities. What are the implications of these polarizing ideas in communities of diversity and diaspora? What role does art and performance play in disseminating ideas and countering opinions?
We seek diverse, interdisciplinary voices and encourage proposals for performances, digital humanities projects, and other creative engagement practices.
How to apply?
