Attention STEM graduate students! CSEP is looking to hire several students for industry and entrepreneurship assessment projects beginning this quarter.

Description:
Conduct interviews of campus constituents and local tech entrepreneurs to understand the landscape of startups in Santa Barbara, the needs for a future workforce, and the needs for engaging a more diverse population to take on and be successful in entrepreneurial endeavors in our community.

Each project requires 5-10 hours/week. You may focus on one project or split your hours across both projects, and there is flexibility in when the work is done (Winter 2017, Spring 2017, Summer 2017, and Fall 2017 quarters). The hours are flexible, though it is required that you have availability during 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday working hours.

Project A: Campus and local tech entrepreneur climate assessment project
2 openings

Goal: drive increased innovation and entrepreneurship in our community and ensure that it includes the diversity of our student, faculty, and local community population.

Project B: Integrated photonics industry assessment project
2 openings

Goal: Similar to Project A but the focus is on talking with professionals in the integrated photonics industry.

Testimony:

A current liaison, Tanya Das, shares her experience working with the photonics industry: "I am a Ph.D. student in the Schuller lab, and for the last few months I have been working with CSEP and AIM Photonics to assess workforce needs in local photonics companies. I cannot emphasize enough what an excellent networking opportunity this position is. If you are interested in working in the photonics industry after graduation, this position would be completely invaluable for you and could lead to additional opportunities with CSEP and AIM Photonics depending on your interests. Because of this position, I have gotten hour-long one-on-one meetings with founders, CEOs, CTOs, and VPs of local photonics companies."
