OVERVIEW
The EDGE Program is designed to strengthen the ability of women and minority students to successfully complete graduate programs in the mathematical sciences. Increased diversity in the mathematics community will ultimately strengthen U.S. competitiveness in mathematics and science and allow people from all backgrounds and cultures to thrive, advance, and contribute to the profession. EDGE sponsors five regional Mentoring Clusters for women in the mathematical sciences. Following the EDGE summer program, an ongoing mentoring program and support network is established with the participants' respective graduate programs.

The EDGE provides multiple immersion and networking opportunities, including:

  • Two core courses in analysis and algebra/linear algebra;
  • Mini-courses in vital areas of mathematical research in pure and applied mathematics;
  • Short-term visitors from academia and industry;
  • Graduate student mentors;
  • Problem sessions.

SUMMER SESSION
The 2019 EDGE summer session will be held June 2nd-29th, 2019 at Pomona College in Claremont, CA. Summer participants receive a stipend plus travel, room, and board.

Applicants to the program should be women who:
1) are applying to PhD programs in the mathematical sciences, or
2) just completed their first year in a PhD program in the mathematical sciences.

Women from underrepresented minority groups are especially encouraged to apply. Final acceptance to the program is contingent upon enrollment in a PhD program in Fall 2019. Unfortunately, at this time, we are only able to fund US citizens and permanent residents.

DEADLINE
The application deadline for the program is March 1, 2019.
