Instructional Development at UCSB is working to develop resources to help students teach sections remotely during Spring quarter. Students will need to work closely with their instructor to decide how sections will be taught (synchronously, asynchronously, or a combination of both).
Instructional Development's Instructional Continuity Site should be student's first stopping place for resources. âThey are constantly adding and making improvements. âBe sure to check back daily for the next couple of weeks to see what is new.
Below are important tools that UCSB is supporting to facilitate remote teaching and links to tutorials for each:
GachoCast: used to pre-record lecture segments, which are then shared through GauchoSpace
Zoom: used for synchronous video conferencing
Self-guided tutorials for GauchoCast and Zoom, that include opportunities for you to ask questions, can be found by joining the Teaching with GauchoCast and Zoom GS site.
Nectir: is an instant messaging platform (like Slack, but FERPA compliant) that integrates into your GauchoSpace site.
Click here for more information about Nectir, including how to set it up.
Preparing to Teach Online: They have also developed a new, comprehensive training site for instructors and TAs, called "Preparing to Teach Online," available through GauchoSpace. The site has ideas, resources, links to UCSB-supported technologies, and opportunities to interact with each other and with us. You also have a chance to experience the training as a game, where you will complete quests to earn a certificate of completion in Preparing to Teach Online. Please note that GauchoSpace has planned downtime from 6am to 2pm on Thurs, 3/26 and the site will not be available during that time.
