Career Development
The Academic Lab Management and Leadership Symposium is a four-day course to equip postdocs and grad students in the biomedical, physical and life sciences with the professional competencies to lead innovative and productive research programs. The virtual symposium will take place on February 23 & 25 and March 2 & 4. Students can also apply for funding from UCSB's Individualized Professional Skills program to attend. Read on to learn more!

The course is designed to equip postdocs and junior faculty in the biomedical, physical and life sciences with the professional competencies to lead innovative and productive research programs. However, graduate students and research staff may also find this training informative and may attend. Additionally, the symposium will be held virtually this year and postdocs and graduate students from any institution are invited to register.
This course is eligible for funding by UCSB's Individualized Professional Skills (IPS) program. Read on for more information about the symposium and how to apply for funding.

Registrations will be accepted through the start of the final session on Thursday, March 4 at 12 noon PT. Slides and handout will be sent to all registrants at the conclusion of the entire event from the presenters who consent to making their materials available, but sessions will not be recorded.

ABOUT THE IPS PROGRAM
Have you ever wished you had support to take advantage of a professional or career development opportunity that lies outside the scope of your academic research? The UCSB Individualized Professional Skills (IPS) Program is designed to help graduate students and postdoctoral scholars fill in the funding gaps for pursuing opportunities that support your professional development in a variety of career trajectories.
Awards up to $1000 will be granted to eligible UCSB graduate students and postdoctoral scholars from any discipline who wish to individually tailor their career paths with outside professional development opportunities. These opportunities include but are not limited to:
- Attending workshops, industry trade shows, trainings, certificate programs, and other professional events
- Visits to potential industries and companies
- Visits to job shadow potential mentors or others in a chosen industry
- Career-focused professional organization events
- And more!
