Please take a moment to read this important message from Student Health:

We are seeing a lot of influenza cases at student health. Given this level of activity, it's likely that we'll continue to see a high volume of flu cases over the next 2-3 weeks.

We are taking steps to meet this surge.

To review: The flu causes rapid onset of body aches, fatigue, headache, sore throat, cough and sometimes nausea and/or diarrhea. It runs its course over 7-10 days. The mainstay is ibuprofen for pain and fever and rest. It's imperative that people isolate themselves until they are fever free for 24 hours without any ibuprofen or Tylenol. Hand sanitizing, wearing a mask indoors and avoiding sharing objects that can harbor the flu vaccine such as stationary, cell phones, etc. can all help to reduce transmission.

If the diagnosis is made within 48 hours, we can prescribe Tamiflu which can help shorten the course to about 5 days. We also like to treat students who are at high risk of complications from the flu such as students with chronic health conditions.
