This week, the UCSB Housing office sent out the following message to graduate students about housing availability and processes for the 2023-24 academic year. See the full statement below:
Dear Graduate Student:
We wanted to provide you some information about housing for 2023-24 as early as possible so that you can begin making your plans.
San Clemente Villages has 916 spaces for graduate students, plus an additional 48 spaces that are not part of the 916 graduate spaces that are used for undergraduate students with special accommodation needs such as disabilities. Since new graduate students receive priority, the number of spaces available for continuing students is limited. For 2023-24, we anticipate that we will be able to accommodate approximately 375 current graduate students.
The application period will be from March 1-13 at https://www.housing.ucsb.edu/apply/continuing-students-graduate. Lottery numbers are assigned to all on-time applicants and those students awarded a contract will be notified by March 21. Priorities for allocation of spaces is determined in collaboration with the Graduate Division and Graduate Student Association leadership with consideration of special accommodation needs such as disabilities that require campus housing and students with gender identities that face barriers finding suitable housing elsewhere. The priority consideration factors and the lottery numbers are used to determine the allocation of available spaces, and if applicable, the order of the waiting list.
Because current students are not guaranteed housing, and availability is limited, we encourage you to begin thinking about your housing options now. University & Community Housing Services (UCHS) will be hosting a Virtual Housing Program for Grad Students on November 16 from 6:00-7:00. [You can register using the QR Code in the flyer below.] Please take this opportunity to get connected to community resources as early as possible.
