Join us for our Fall Communication Skills Series, featuring two exciting workshops facilitated by Bri McWhorter from Activate to Captivate. Download the event flyer here and read on for more information. Note that RSVPs are required for both events.

Interpersonal Communication Skills for Ph.D.s
Tuesday, October 24
10 a.m.-noon
UCen State Street Room

Communication is essential to everything we do as scholars, and it is especially important when interacting with other people - whether it be colleagues, your advisor, or a potential employer. In this workshop, you'll experience how to be hyperaware of what is going on around you while still being relaxed enough to receive new information. Using acting exercises, you will learn how to be in the moment for effective communication and you'll leave knowing to how to deeply listen and connect to those around you.

Thinking on Your Feet: Improv Skills for Interviewing
Tuesday, October 24
1:30-3:30 p.m.
UCen State Street Room

During an interview, you need to be confident, articulate, and able to quickly think on your feet. Luckily, these are skills that you can practice in advance. This interactive workshop will help you flex the improvisation muscles you need to succeed. Learn how to be an active listener, keep the dialogue going, and impress your interviewer. This workshop is helpful for preparation in both academic and non-academic interview settings.

Both of these workshops are open to UCSB graduate students and postdocs.
