GRAD SLAM
April 4-15
Grad Slam is a campus-wide competition for the best three-minute talk by a graduate student. There are three rounds of presentations - preliminaries, semifinals, and finals - and prizes are given at each stage of advancement. Participants are judged on the basis of having a clear and effective presentation that is geared for a general university audience and has demonstrable intellectual significance. The competition also features a People's Choice component, where audience members select their favorite presenters in each of the preliminary round. This year, the Graduate Division will award more than $20,000 in cash and prizes, and all entrants will receive a custom mug and tote bag. The preliminary rounds start next Monday, April 4. Check out the full prelim schedule and be sure to come out and support your fellow grads!
GRADUATE STUDENT SHOWCASE
April 4-16
The Graduate Student Showcase is a celebration of UCSB's extraordinary graduate students and their remarkable accomplishments. This year's Showcase features the Library Wine & Cheese Reception (always a popular event!), ââtours of the UCSB Marine Science Institute's touch tanks, and free massages and snacks for graduate students.
