The UC Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI) seeks a Research Programs Manager with experience in academic and research program development and administration. UCHRI is the system-wide organization serving all 10 campuses in the UC system. This position will be responsible for leading, managing, and coordinating the programs associated with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant, "Infrastructure and Its Inquiries: Horizons of the Humanities."

Salary Range: $53,000 - $58,000

Total Hours: 8-5, M-F. This is a 100% year-long contract position, with possibility of renewal, contingent on budget.

Job Essential Function 1: Program Management (Percent of Time: 40%)

  • Provide programming and administrative management for the research programs associated with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant, Infrastructure and Its Inquiries: Horizons of the Humanities.
  • Provide planning for the programs, including developing timelines, work plans, budgets, and internal communications to ensure project goals and outcomes are met.
  • Serve as a primary administrative interface with participating faculty and graduate scholars as well as with humanities center directors, administrators and other UCHRI partners.
  • Coordinate with Assistant Director, Research Communications Manager, and Program Officer to run funding competitions, produce CFPs, track submissions and oversee selection processes.
  • Collaborate with UCHRI staff to develop and produce external communications and publicity for programs, and produce public-facing products that communicate the ongoing work of the individual projects associated with Horizons of the Humanities.
  • In collaboration with senior UCHRI staff, foster and support the development of a digital community related to the activities of Horizons of the Humanities specifically, and UCHRI more generally. This will include the development and curation of a digital communications platform.

Job Essential Function 2: Event Management (Percent of Time: 30%)

  • Working collaboratively with UCHRI staff, manage all aspects of event production for the programs, which may include public lectures, workshops, webinars, conferences and similar events.
  • Coordinate logistics and provide administrative support for events, including arranging space and catering, processing of honoraria, and travel-related expenses; arranging transportation, accommodations, and meals for event or program participants, as necessary.

Job Essential Function 3: Program Development and Research (Percent of Time: 30%)

  • In collaboration with Director, Assistant Director, and Research Communications Manager, contribute substantive program development and administration for other current and upcoming UCHRI programs, including Humanists@Work and public and digital humanities projects.
  • In consultation with Director and Assistant Director, develop and conduct research relevant to the Institute's mission and its programs, to which the candidate's own research interests would contribute and from which they might benefit.
  • Applicants whose research interests align with topics related to the Horizons of the Humanities grant preferred, but not required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Humanities-related field, with degree in hand no later than June 2017, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of academic and educational functions of major research university.
  • Understanding of and appreciation for academic and humanistic enterprise.
  • Ability to articulate academic values to diverse constituencies.
  • Superior research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Event coordination and management experience.
  • Experience designing and working with websites (e.g. WordPress).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multi-faceted programs and projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and prioritize in a multi-project, deadline driven environment.
  • Proven ability to work both collaboratively and independently with little supervision.
  • Have strong attention to detail and follow through.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of the University of California system.
  • Experience with building and supporting scholarly communities, including online/digital communities.
