After School Languages, an elementary-school program that provides extracurricular language classes to K-6th graders, is looking to hire class instructors and private tutors. The application deadline for the upcoming Fall quarter is September 5.
After School Languages is an elementary-school program designed by professional linguists and translators to expose children to the world's most-spoken languages using songs, games, and fun activities. Their wonderful after-school programs work together with elementary schools to provide extracurricular language classes to students of all ages.
How they work:
- They are an after-school program, meaning classes happen in the schools right after the kids are released from school.
- Classes last an hour to an hour-and-a-half depending on the school, are typically between 1:30-4 p.m., and are for K-6th graders.
- Sessions are usually between 8-12 weeks and depend on the schools' schedules, with a Winter, Spring, and Summer break and days off for the holidays.
- Classes need a minimum of 4 kids to run (they have had to cancel classes in the past that have not reached the minimum requirements, but this is not a common thing).
What they are looking for:
- Instructors for classes both in a school and private setting for the coming Fall quarter (beginning September 5, 2017) and future quarters.
- Instructors need to be bilingual in the language they teach and have a good rapport with children (no certifications required, prior experience is a plus, but not mandatory).
- They also have opportunities for private tutoring.
- They provide every teacher with a curriculum to use as a guide, but teachers are welcome to adapt the content and activities to their own liking and to their students. The program provides all the equipment that teachers need.
- Pay is $20/hour for up to 6 kids and $25 for more ($10/hour for shadowing/training). Teachers have an independent contractor status and must fill out a W9 form before classes start. They will also need to get fingerprinted.
