The Peer Buddies Program is looking to fill its Summer Camp Counselor position immediately at $20/hr!

Peer Buddies is an inclusion summer camp designed to help build social skills for kids (ages 4-20) with developmental disabilities (mostly Autism but also Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and other sorts of disabilities). Each child with a disability is paired with a typically developing peer. Each pair of children is assigned to an undergraduate volunteer facilitator.

The counselor's main role is to be the "ring leader" of the camp - leading camp songs and games, keeping track of the schedule and easing transitions between activities, etc., and also supervising and providing support for the undergrad facilitators.

Ideally, the Counselor will have prior experience with ASD and a Master's degree (but pre-MA grad students may be qualified as well depending on experience and other factors). The other important quality for this position is the ability to be outgoing, loud, energetic, creative, and patient. As mentioned, the job does require leading songs in front of a large group, and organizing large group games. They are looking for someone who doesn't mind being loud and goofy!

The camp runs 6 weeks (July 8 - Aug 16), Monday-Friday, 12:30-5 PM. It takes place at Elings park (off Las Positas).
