Career Development

We've all been there: there's an assignment to write, but we just can't bring ourselves to do it. This workshop on April 10 is designed to provide an honest conversation on writer's block - what it is in all its forms. It will then offer strategies to help writers with particular writer's block tendencies, from the small (e.g., lack of focus) to the large (e.g., psychological fears). RSVP today!

We've all been there: there's an assignment to write, but we can't bring ourselves to do it. Maybe we stare at the blank page on our computers hoping for inspiration. Maybe we clean our houses for the third time in an effort to delay the experience. Maybe we give up and say we just aren't good writers. These can all be instances of writer's block.

Writer's block is a contentious term. Do a quick search of it and you'll find no shortage of people telling you that it's not real. That you just need to find ways write! Well, that's like saying a depressed person just needs to cheer up. The truth is that there are many reasons why writers struggle with writing. Some of these reasons are simple, but others relate to complex emotional experiences. And unless a person identifies the individual reasons behind his/her block, platitudes won't cut it.
