"Levels of Reality and Artifice in The Talos Principle"
âElizabeth Hambleton
Graduate Student in ââMusic
Video game sound design often takes the back seat. However, some games put sound at the forefront, and the visuals take on the support role. In this case study from The Talos Principle, a 2014 3D puzzle-solving game set in post-apocalyptic Earth, Elizabeth will explore sound's role in telling the story and indicating levels of reality versus artifice and trust versus doubt.

"Connecting Children to Nature through Outdoor 'Escape Room' Curriculum"
Nicole Poletto
Graduate Student in Environmental Science & Management
Nicole has been working on a group thesis project through the Eco-Entrepreneurship track at the Bren School, which aims to design a business that solves both customer and environmental problems. Inspired by the rising trend of nature deficit disorder, the team came together to engage children in nature in their local communities. BranchOut is an event operating business that designs games which âutilize an immersive story line where kids and their families crack codes âto solve puzzles in a race against the clock.
This event will be moderated byâ âShawn Warner-Garcia, the Assistant Director of Professional Development for the Graduate Division.
