Career Services at UC Santa Barbara seeks an enthusiastic professional to fill the role of Assistant Director, Graduate Career Education.
As part of a dynamic team of career services professionals and under general direction of the Associate Director, Career Education, the Assistant Director, Graduate Career Education functions with a high degree of autonomy to provide leadership as well as direct career support services to Master's and Ph.D. students and eligible alumni in various settings including individual 1:1 support, workshops, and event programming to develop initiatives, employer relationships, alumni contacts to maintain high-impact, scalable services to ensure the successful support to graduate students to both non-academic and academic using high degree of knowledge and expertise in graduate career education. The Assistant Director applies advanced career development concepts, conducts strategic needs assessments of gaps in the services for graduate students, plans and develops improvements and new career services to help graduate students with career and professional development issues, clarify their career objectives, and develop effective job search strategies.
The Assistant Director also collaborates with faculty, staff, and academic units within the Graduate Division as well as builds relationships with external partners and alumni to provide specialized graduate student programming, research, career-related information, and consultation in serving these constituents in the Division of Student Affairs.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
â Advanced degree in career counseling, student affairs, higher education, or related field or equivalent work experience.
â Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
â Demonstrated verbal and written skills in communicating complex information to both internal and external audiences.
â Ability to think critically and creatively, and imagine possibilities for solutions that do not currently exist or are not apparent.
â Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusionary practices.
â Demonstrated operational skills in common word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
Preferred:
â Minimum of 4-6 years of relevant experience providing career counseling to address a broad range of career/employment situations to graduate students.
â Advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling processes, career decision-making, learning styles, and job search strategies. Knowledge of standards set forth by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
â Experience supervising and supporting student staff.
â Demonstrated knowledge of project management including program development, implementation, data collection, assessment, and evaluation.
â Knowledge of labor market and employment trends, both locally and nationally, related to hiring students from a top-tier university.
â Demonstrated skill in establishing effective working relationships with staff of all levels, faculty, employers, and alumni.
â Experience and proficiency in incorporating the use of technology to deliver career services.
