This panel on Thursday, February 21st, will address two questions: what is institutionalized racism and how do we navigate a system when we are still a part of it? The goal is to give all affiliated with the university who have experienced institutionalized racism, either consciously or subconsciously, the tools to handle and combat it. Read on for details.

The UC San Diego Center on Gender Equity and Health is recruiting participants for a research project that aims to understand how students, staff, and faculty feel about the campus environment as it relates to intimate partnerships, relationship health, sexual assault, and other types of interpersonal violence. Gauchos for Recovery, a student-led organization that provides resources to UCSB students seeking long-term recovery from alcohol, addictive substances, and addictive behaviors, has a meeting for graduate students and non-traditional students on Fridays at 12pm in Embarcadero Hall 1105. Health & Wellness has just released the 2019 National College Health Assessment (NCHA) survey, aimed at giving UCSB campus health service providers a better understanding of what the wellbeing needs are of the diverse student population at UCSB. Graduate students are invited to complete the survey for a chance to win a $75 Amazon gift card!

On Friday, February 22, Judy Shepard (Founding President of the Matthew Shepard Foundation​) will speak about her son's legacy and the work of the foundation. A panel of scholars will precede Mrs. Shepard's talk and the evening will conclude with a reception. The event is free, but reservations are required. Congratulations to Rosie Bermudez, Chicana/o Studies doctoral candidate and Graduate Scholars Mentor, for receiving a UC Office of the President Postdoctoral Fellowship for 2019-2020!​ Rosie will work with Professor Robin Kelley, the Gary B. The 6th annual Art of Science competition is now open for submissions! UCSB undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs are invited to tell the story of their research through the aesthetic. First-place will receive a $250 amazon gift card. Prizes of smaller amounts will also be awarded to second, third-place, and community vote winners. Submission deadline has been extended to February 14, 2019.
