The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) recently announced the second competition of the Leading Edge Fellowship. The Leading Edge Program provides one-year fellowships to recent humanities PhDs as they pursue publicly engaged projects that document the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on communities. Apply by November 2, 2020!
OVERVIEW
The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) has announced the new Leading Edge Fellowship program, which aims to demonstrate the potential of people with advanced degrees in the humanities and humanistic social sciences to solve problems outside the academy. In the first cycle of the fellowship competition, ACLS seeks applications from recent PhDs in art and architectural history and related fields who seek to help communities respond to issues caused by the Covid-19 crisis and advance public understanding of the pandemic. All fellowships starting in 2020 will be held remotely.
Each applicant may apply for up to two of the available Leading Edge Fellowship opportunities listed below.

- MASS MoCA (North Adams, MA) - Centering Care in the Arts
- Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage (Washington, DC) - Chronicling Community Artists during Covid-19
DEADLINE
November 2, 2020, 6pm PT
AWARD
$60,000 plus health insurance and professional development funding.
ELIGIBILITY
- Must have a PhD that was/will be conferred by their universities between September 1, 2016 and December 31, 2020.
- Must be authorized to work legally in the United States for the entire duration of the fellowship term. Neither ACLS nor the host organization can sponsor fellows for visas.
