Free showing of Ava DuVernary's '13th' at MCC Theater on February 1

"13th" is a documentary examining how the criminal justice system in the United States has continued the legacy of slavery, which the 13th amendment sought to end. A discussion will immediately follow the free screening of the film at the MultiCultural Center.

UCSB Women of Color Circle to host sexual violence teach-in on February 2

UCSB’s Women of Color Circle will host the "Survived and Punished Teach-In," which will address the criminalization of black girls and womxn and girls and womxn of color who have experienced domestic and sexual violence, part of the larger prison pipeline problem.

Weekly gatherings for supporting Mandarin-speaking students

Counseling and Psychological Services is offering a support group in Mandarin in order to provide a safe space for international students to create their own community and offer an opportunity for students to strengthen interpersonal skills and relate to each other at a deeper level.

Upcoming mixers for grad students of color and LGBTQ+ grad students

Affinity Grad Mixers – sponsored by the Graduate Student Apartment Community Council, Graduate Division, and CAPS – will host mixers on January 23, 24, and 26. All mixers will provide appetizers and a space for building community with other graduate students from diverse backgrounds.

Author and activist Tim Wise to speak at Campbell Hall on January 25

Author and anti-racist activist Tim Wise will give a talk as part of UCSB's Resilient Love in a Time of Hate series that will focus on meaningful ways in which white Americans can be allies to communities of color. This event is free and will be followed by a Q&A session with Wise.
