Summer is here and that means the Graduate Simulation Seminar Series (GS^3) is back! The Center for Scientific Computing is offering a 10-12 week set of seminars over the summer, during which researchers from different departments at UCSB present on their simulation-based research or lead workshops on cutting-edge computational techniques. Don’t forget to apply for the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Fellowships! The DDRA Fellowship Program provides opportunities for doctoral candidates to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies. Have you heard? UCPath, the new system for Payroll, Academic Personnel, Timekeeping and Human Resources​, goes live at UCSB​ ​this Fall. UCPath replaces our current payroll system and will be available to all UCSB employees in early October. Beginning in July 2018, student U-Mail accounts will be migrated from Office 365 to a Connect Google Suite for Education account. Connect is UCSB’s suite of messaging and collaboration tools, including services such as Box cloud storage and Zoom video conferencing. Arguably the most important document when applying for any academic job is the cover letter. To kick off the Academic Job Market Writing Workshop Series, we will begin with cover letters: what they are, what they look like, and how to write them to the job that you are applying for. Participants will learn what the major sections of a cover letter entail and how to tailor a cover letter to specific positions.
