The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is a highly competitive international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. In the 2020-21 award cycle, 21 students applied from UCSB, 4 were selected as finalists, 5 were selected as alternates, and 4 were selected as semi-finalists. Congratulations to these outstanding students!

The Schmidt Family Foundation, in partnership with the UCSB Graduate Division, is once again generously funding three types of awards and fellowships for research in the broad fields of ocean sciences, ecology, and environmental sciences to UCSB students. Awards are available to undergrads, grad students, and postgraduate scholars. Apply by May 15, 2020!

This workshop on May 14 will teach participants what the various modes of revision are. From there, it will explore assorted comments students receive on their writing and connect those comments to the appropriate mode of revision. Finally, we will present strategies and exercises for how to engage each type of revision so that students can hone their revision skills. RSVP today!

The Multidisciplinary Postdoctoral Training Program in Basic Diabetes Research at the University of Michigan prepares PhD basic scientists for careers in diabetes research. The objective of this program is to provide the research experience and skills needed for postdoctoral scientists to gain a modern cellular, genetic, and molecular understanding of diabetes, and to set the foundation for a career in basic diabetes research. Deadline to apply is June 1, 2020.
